Please help us support families in their time of need
Please help us support families in their time of need
Parents Left Behind, Inc is a 501c3 nonprofit that provides support for parents grieving the death of a child, regardless of their child’s age at the time of death. We strive to develop programs that will directly and positively impact the members of our community and organization.
One of our newest programs is our Funeral Fund. The Parents Left Behind, Inc Funeral Fund was founded, in the hopes of being able to further the ways in which we help grieving parents in our community. Recent federal statistics estimate that each year over 228,000 children and young people die in the United States. These statistics do not include miscarriages, stillbirths or the death of older adults (40+) whose parent or parents survive them. These statistics are sobering and have cause our organization to look for ways in which we can alleviate the stress and financial burden of funeral expenses for grieving parents in our community.
When a child dies, it is one of the most tragic and life-changing events a parent will ever face in their lifetime. While the death of a child is often times unexpected, there are circumstances where death is evident due to illness. Regardless of the circumstances, the financial burden placed upon the shoulders of grieving parents can be devastating. Not only are they physically and emotionally drained, but upon the death of a child in most circumstances, the parents are financially drained as well. Most do not have life insurance policies that cover their children. This can have a catastrophic financial affect on parents.
No parent should ever have to worry about whether or not they can afford to have a funeral for their deceased child. Unfortunately for most, this is a heart-breaking reality that is faced daily by bereaved parents.
Our ultimate goal for the PLB Funeral fund is to have the ability to provide full funeral funding for up to 20 families annually in the amount of up to $5,000.
As with any program, there will be an application process and specific restrictions and requirements that need to be met before funding is provided. This is to ensure that those who are truly in need are selected and provided the funds for necessary arrangements.
In order to qualify for assistance, the parent must be the one to apply, there may not be any form of life insurance policy for the deceased child and only costs associated with the funeral will be covered. No burial or headstone/memorial(s) to be covered at this time.
Currently we are only able to help with a small portion of funeral funding for a very limited amount of families. It is our hope that over the next year, we can expand this fund, so that we may extend our program to include things such as burial expenses and headstones/memorials, while reaching our goal of assisting 20 families.
The costs associated with funeral expenses have skyrocketed in recent years, and will likely continue to do so. It is only with the help of generous donors such as yourself, that we are able to keep this program funded. Any amount donated is considered a tax-deductible donation and you will be provided the necessary documentation of your donation for tax purposes. Please consider either a sponsorship or one-time donation to help a grieving parent in need.
